Ephesus Baptist Church (EBC) desires to see lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We strive to see the Gospel fleshed out in our lives and our community. We are a church that values community and family. While we enjoy our fellowship as we live life together, we also cherish the fellowship we have with Christians that have gone before us. We hope this blend of the ancient and contemporary allows us to learn to love and serve Jesus more in our generation.

Our Worship Service

Every Sunday morning we gather to worship Jesus, our risen King, through song, the corporate reading of Scripture, prayer, the preaching of God's Word, giving, and more. Here are a few things you will experience at EBC:

We love our guests. If this is your first Sunday at Ephesus, we have ushers at the main sheltered entrance on the Old Spring Hope Road side of our facility. They will have information about Ephesus Baptist Church. Our friendly Welcome Team will be able to direct you to our childcare areas, to our various Sunday School rooms, and to our worship and fellowship areas.

Certain aspects of the service will be consistent every week. One of those aspects is the corporate reading of Scripture together. Another is that we seek to memorize Scripture together as a congregation. Scripture guides everything we do in our worship of the risen Christ.

We hope to foster an atmosphere of prayer while we worship together. Our pastors will often pray during the service. Often, we will have times of corporate prayer. Also, we hope that our observance of the Lord’s Supper will be a time of reflection and prayer. Our Prayer Team prays over ever one of our worship services. Prayer is a primary core value at Ephesus.

We typically go through books of the Bible, studying a passage each week. On occasion we have a series that addresses a key theme of the Christian life. Special holidays often have sermons that aim to guide us in our celebration of the special day. In all of our sermons, we aim to exalt Jesus, and apply the truths of the Scripture to our lives practically. Our desire is that our audience will become reproducers (able to teach God’s Word to others), not just receivers.

The Lord’s Supper

We celebrate the Lord’s Supper once a quarter in order to remember our Lord’s atoning death and our identity as members of one body. This is a time for personal and corporate repentance and spiritual renewal. We believe with Andrew Blackwood that,

The Lord’s Supper should be the crowning service in the church, and thus be earth’s nearest approach to heaven.

We believe that the Lord’s Table is a meal for the redeemed. It is a meal for the Church, those purchased by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. You can’t remember someone whom you have not experienced. The Table is not the pastor’s table, it is not the church’s table; it is the Lord’s Table. We must respect it!

We believe that when our church gathers together to observe the Lord’s Supper, we are literally preaching a sermon on the Lord’s death and His imminent return.

Baptism is also a very important aspect of our worship services. We hope that baptism will be a frequent part of our worship services. Baptism is another opportunity for prayer, reflection, and celebration.

Baptism is a step of obedience that Jesus requires of His followers. Baptism displays His gospel and gives His people an opportunity to publicly profess their faith in Christ. In the act of baptism, we unite by faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus our Lord. Baptism is for anyone who wants to profess Jesus as Lord. The Bible teaches that new Christians are baptized (immersed) into a local community, so baptism is also connected to church membership.

We recommend that anyone interested in either baptism or membership speak to one of our pastors about why baptism and membership are important, and the responsibilities of church members.

Offerings are an important part of worship. We collect an offering every Sunday morning. If you are a visitor to EBC, we do not expect you to give. We are simply glad to have you spend your day with us. Members are expected to give regularly to support the mission of God in our church, community, and to world at large.

You can expect a mix of contemporary and ancient hymns/songs that magnify Christ. Our Worship Team strives to lead us in songs that are biblically faithful and full of praiseworthy lyrics to worship our God in Spirit and Truth.

Children and Family Worship

We welcome any children into the service to worship alongside their families. We don’t mind a little noise. We also provide childcare for birth through 3rd grade during our corporate worship. Our childcare is designed with children and families in mind. During our Sunday worship service, kids experience safe, age-appropriate environments, where we teach the bible in creative and relevant ways.

We hope to have a causal, comfortable atmosphere during our times of worship. We have a “come as you are, but please wear clothes” policy. Most of our church family dresses casually. We only ask that what you wear is respectful and modest, but definitely not formal wear. In the end, we are more concerned about your heart for worship than what you are wearing.
